Good Afternoon West Community,
As reported last week, our students were caught off guard by the snowstorm on Monday morning. For those that did show up, I had them finish up any missing assignments from their classes, or in this class as well. Wednesday, the students were being facilitated a ACCESS test, so I was not able to see any of my students that day.
Tuesday and Thursday, I had my two classes and I was able to assign them a new project, something that I believe to be engaging, fun, and overall, a deep connection in the sense of the students finding themselves.
The engagement levels in the classroom took a turn, as I introduced a personality test. Essentially, what I have observed with our students is the overall lack of a self-reflecting structure. What I mean by that is our students know very little about themselves, their habits, if they are extroverted/introverted etc. I am sure if I were to talk with them about some of these traits, they would be able to carry a conversation with someone about themselves. However, they would not, or cannot start that conversation on their own. where I come into the play is to show them how to actually START and CARRY a conversation about themselves with students & adults, the likes of which where they can describe who they are.
The personality test came from this website, https://www.16personalities.com. The test itself has over 30 questions and pinpoints the students traits. I, myself, took it and I was not surprised whatsoever.

I had a variety of results come back from the students, which I will share with you all next week. The layout of the test results will be written about next week, so make sure you come back to read what some our students are. The end result will be a poster, describing some strengths and weaknesses of the personality, along with a writing assignment where we will provide the structure for our students to really understand themselves, to their very core. Here is a sneak peek of one of the more detailed student posters!
Next week, we will be covering the Unit 2 -- Healthy Relationships lesson, specifically the "Dating Abuse" lesson just in time for Valentine's Day.
The grind continues, y'all. Happy reading!
